When an electric vehicle (EV) runs, its battery inevitably undergoes wear and tear just like human body deteriorating with aging. But for safety you need to know when to intervene before anything bad happens. That’s where Batterfly steps in.

Enhancing battery safety and its value through AI-driven analysis of EV operational data.
To understand the unique characteristics of EV secondary batteries, we installed LTE-grade data collection devices on electric buses, which consistently covered 250 to 300 kilometers along the same route with identical driving patterns for over six months.
Analyzing data across different regions, routes, and drivers, we identified 17 Key factors within 4 main categories affecting battery safety and lifespan:
• Accumulated distance of Driving (1 type)
• Discharge patterns (6 types)
• Driving patterns (7 types)
• Cell conditions (3 factors)
Interestingly, even within the same vehicle model, degradation rates varied significantly based on location and driver.
We observed differences of at least 15% in degradation rates.
Additionally, we detected sudden spikes in battery current over a two-day period, prompting us to recommend battery inspections and replacements to the electric bus company.
Our solution, BBTAN, provides real-time monitoring and data-driven insights for EV safety and battery value. Here’s what sets us apart:
1. Early Fire Hazard Detection: We predict fire risks in EV batteries before they occur.
2. Evidence for Warranty Claims: Our data-based approach helps prove liability in cases of battery issues (repairs, replacements, compensation).
3. Driver Behavior Management: By coaching and managing driver habits, we ensure safer EV operation and better preserve battery value.
4. Carbon Emission Reduction Tracking: We provide reliable data on carbon emissions saved through EV operation.
To address the limitation of data loss during battery fires, we propose a cloud-based black-box that collects and stores real-time data (seconds, minutes, hours, daily). This approach optimizes communication costs and minimizes valuable data loss.

Our ongoing efforts include expanding data collection methods and standardizing battery data management. We’ve filed patents related to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for EV batteries and continue to collaborate with global partners.
We’re not stopping at buses. Our solution extends to taxis, logistics robots, and e-bikes, anywhere and everywhere where EV’s are running. We’re also developing a certification service for assessing residual value and battery condition in used EVs.
